New Talent Info
If this is your first time to work with KatzKasting (or you are wanting to work with KatzKasting) I need for you to read the following information.
In order to ensure Credibility & Integrity within the KatzKasting talent pool, we have created these guidelines that you must agree to adhere to in order to work on any project with KatzKasting.
I've been told that I expect a lot from my extras. Yep! You are right! I expect you to know what you are getting yourself into before you ever sign up! I expect you to be a person of your word & commitment! I expect you to read this super long page, and I expect you to take your Acting serious, whatever level you are at.
Remember, KatzKasting never forces anyone to work for free or be an extra. It's your own decision, and we expect you to be of sound mind and body and capable of making the decision for yourself prior to signing up. If you can't agree, don't sign up. Simple as that!
New Talent Guidelines & Information: (Mostly geared towards Extra work, but can be applied to other areas as well)
Always remember that you are a Representative of KatzKasting anytime you are booked to be an extra, for an audition, or for a role. What you do directly reflects on my company. If you disregard this, you will not be asked to work again, nor be considered for any future work (speaking or otherwise). If you make me look good, and someone compliments me for your good behavior, then you are automatically on my "good list" and I will allow you to participate in smaller scenes and better opportunities.
Requirements to be an extra with KatzKasting:
- You are dependable. If you say you are going to be there. You will be there. Even if something "better" comes up.
- You can read and follow directions (prove this to me by signing up the way I ask)
- You own a clock and know how to be on time. If you are habitually late, I can't use you. Move on to something else.
- You own a car, or have someone who is dependable to drive you & you know how to put gas in your car in order to make sure you arrive on set at the specific time.
- You have driven in traffic, and you know how to leave early to account for traffic situations, or how to take short cuts to get around traffic so that you are not late.
- You can go somewhere by yourself. You can't be bringing your "posse" with you to set, unless I ask for more people. If you can't do it alone, this isn't the business for you.
- You can keep yourself busy quietly for an extended period of time. There is usually lots of "hurry up & wait" basically we need to make sure you are on time, in proper wardrobe, and ready to go. You may sit in the holding area for 6 hours before you are used. Get used to it, this is a part of movie making. If you can't find something to do during the down time, this business is not for you.
Sign Up Process:
- In order to be considered for any project, you must "sign up!" I do not keep 10,000 headshots on file, and then randomly select people to do speaking roles or extra work. It's up to YOU to put yourself in front of me for EACH PROJECT!!
- Things to think about BEFORE you "sign up"
- Is this a location that I can really get to?
- Is this a date that I am really available? (No conflicts)
- If it's not paid, am I ok with that?
- Do I really fit the requested specifics?
- Do I own or have access to the requested wardrobe?
- Each time you sign up, you will need to make a professional submission. I ask for these in all situations, because you need to learn what a professional submission is. If you don't know, you won't get anywhere in this business. If you need help, I have "Getting Started Classes" that can guide you down this path. (I do not offer free advice, sorry, If I gave each person just 5 minutes of my time I would never have time to do my job!)
- Appropriate Photos to send:
- As an extra, you can get away with sending any photo that clearly shows you, your face.
- Prefer to not have any additional people, family members, or pets in there with you.
- Once you decide you want to audition for a speaking role, you need to get a professional headshot (not modeling portfolio).
- Depending on the level of the film project, we may not accept any submission for an audition that is not professionally done. (Ie. we are more lenient on short films, student films, and no pay jobs. If pay is involved, you won't get past the door without a professional submission)
- How to sign up:
- Email only. NO PHONE CALLS.
- Follow directions in each particular email.
- Put the appropriate subject and don't change it for any future communication regarding that project. (I use folders and filtering per project. If you fail to use the right subject, your email may get lost)
Booking Process: Now that you have signed up the right way, how do you know if you were picked??
- KatzKasting books entirely by EMAIL, so once you sign up, you need to check your email regularly.
- How long it takes to hear back is based on several factors:
- When the actual shoot is (soon, you will hear back quickly, not until next week, may take a day or two)
- How many people I need for the scene (If I need 10 extras and have 60 sign up, 50 will not get selected)
- If scene is booked, and then people flake out, you could get a last minute email asking if you can step in their place.
- If the casting notice says the scene is Sunday and you don't hear anything by Sunday, then you know you were not picked.
- Make sure you check your junk mail folder, just in case your email program doesn't like my email address and decides to send your booking notice there.
- Once you are booked, you will receive a "KatzKasting Official Booking Notice" this means your name is on the list. You have 24 hrs to cancel without it affecting future work with KatzKasting.
- You must read the notice, make sure you can make the booking, and then CONFIRM by return email within 24 hrs. If you fail to confirm within 24 hrs KatzKasting reserves the right to replace you and move you to a "No confirmation" list.
- Once you confirm, you are being counted on. Meaning, if you flake out, it WILL affect future work with KatzKasting on all levels.
- Check your email the night before & the morning of the day you are to go to set, you never know what last minute changes may arise, and I will send an email stating these changes. If you do not check your email and you show up and the time has been bumped 2 hrs, don't blame me!!! Better safe than sorry!!!! SO CHECK YOUR EMAIL Regularly.
Wardrobe Guidelines:
- Make sure you read the specific wardrobe specifications for your character. These are some general wardrobe guidelines that you should keep in mind and be prepared for in all situations. If no wardrobe details are listed, you can resort to these general guidelines and you should be ok.
- If you know the role you are playing bring wardrobe appropriate for it. Here are some ideas:
- Business Professional (Suit, slacks, button up shirt, tie),
- Nurse (scrubs), Doctor (Lab coat, slacks, button up shirt),
- Cop (is uniform provided? find out!),
- Detective (Suit, button up shirt),
- Student (casual school clothes or uniform?),
- Trainer (gym clothes),
- Football coach (Coach shorts & shirt),
- Club Go-er (party clothes, sexy, mini skirts),
- Church Go-er (Modest, low key attire, dresses, slacks, suits)
- Teacher (modest, school appropriate clothing, slacks, dresses, polo shirts)
- Gangster (oversize clothing, saggy jeans, muscle shirts, big chains, grills, bandanas)
- Restaurant Patron (casual clothing, jeans, tshirts, dresses)
- Redneck Bar (wranglers, boots, western shirts, wife-beaters, cowboy hats, baseball caps)
- Bring 3-5 complete outfits, of varying colors. Wear your favorite option. But be prepared to change when asked.
- Bring mostly solid colors, or other low key/muted prints. Layer your wardrobe.
- Good Color Options:
- Earthtones: Earth tones are just that, colors we see in nature like browns, umbers, terracotta and brick tones. Cranberry, steel blue, ash grey, grass, kelly green, forest, olive, army, teal, coffee, caramel, chocolate, soft gray, red-brown, burnt orange, sunflower, sea foam, palm, mauve, bone, bamboo, apple green. Check out this earthtones color chart
- Pastels: Lavender, light blue, soft yellow, aqua, soft orange, pale pink, peach, mauve, apricot, seashell, mint, rose
- Dark colors: Blues, Greens, Purples, Browns
- DO NOT BRING:
- Red, Black or White. Unless specifically asked for these colors, don't bring them.
- Animal or safari prints (zebra, leopard, cheetah), plaids, bold colors, neon colors
- Anything that has a logo, trademark, or emblem that is recognizable (Nike swoosh, Abercrombie, Adidas emblem, or Paul Frank Monkey Face)
- Tshirts with words on them. No "Your High School" or other words or phrases. If it just says "Football" or "Staff" or something that has absolutely nothing to do with a logo, it may be acceptable, depending on the role that you are playing. (High School Student - ok, Teacher - Not ok)
Props:
- Sometimes your extra role may need props. Here are some instances when it would be appropriate to bring your own props.
- Business man - Laptop, Laptop Bag, Man-purse, Portfolio binder, Briefcase
- Librarian - glasses with chain
- Student - Backpack, textbooks, notebooks, pens, lunch boxes
- Church Go-er - Bible, Hand Held fan
- Doctor - Stethoscope
- Football fan - pom poms, foam fingers, posterboard signs, face painting
Cancellations:
- We all know that sometimes things happen beyond our control. Unfortunately we must keep record of every person that does not fulfill his/her obligation as an extra, for any reason, so that we can make sure our talent pool is credible, and reliable.
- If you need to cancel, this is what you must do:
- Send me an email ASAP including your name & REASON for cancelling.
- If it's within 8 hours of the shoot, and you have my cell phone #, text me with your name & reason for cancelling, as well as send me an email. DO NOT CALL ME. If I am on set, I do not have time for phone calls. TEXT ONLY.
- Communication is KEY. If you are not here, for any reason, you must send me an email.
- If you are running late, this is what you must do:
- Send a text message (or email) with your name, why you are late, and expected time of arrival. If this is a paid gig, you may be replaced, and may not be paid.
- Three Strikes Rule:
- As a new extra it's important that you understand that being late, not showing up, or having a last minute cancellation impacts my final numbers, and ultimately reflects on the integrity within the Talent Pool of KatzKasting.
- As a new extra, you have 1 Freebie Cancellation. After that, they will start counting against you. (Reason irrelevant)
- If you have been a regular extra, always dependable and on time, you get 2 Free Cancellations.
- Three strikes against you, and you will not be asked to work again with KatzKasting.
- Exceptions:
- You can be blacklisted after 1 strike for extreme circumstances.
- If you don't like me, I would suggest you keep it to yourself, because if I find out you have spoken against me, it means you don't respect me, and if you don't respect me, you can't work with me, therefore, I consider disrepect a valid reason to be blacklisted with KatzKasting.
- If the Production company complains about you, depending on the reason supplied, this could blacklist you.
- If you have been blacklisted, you may appeal this by sending an email stating your claim. Reinstated actors must rebuild their credibility and trust by being an extra in big scenes before I will risk putting you in a small scene or seeing you for an audition.
- My Cancellation Codes: When you cancel, you will have this recorded by your name in my files, based on your reason.
- Approved Cancellation: (AC) Cancelled within 24 hrs of being booked, or a minimum of 3 days prior to the shoot date. This cancellation will not affect you, (unless its for a reason stated below) because you have given enough time to replace you.
- Unapproved Cancellation: (UC) Cancelled anytime based on these reasons & counts against you
- Didn't realize it was not paid, can't work for not paid (read full project details before you submit for ANYTHING)
- Bigger, better deal. (we book reliable people, not those who are always waiting for the BBD)
- Last Minute Cancellation: (LMC) Cancelled within 36 hours of the shoot date. This gives me limited time to find someone to replace you. Your reason better be good, or it will count against you.
- No show: (NS) Cancelled anytime after midnight the day of the shoot, and those that fail to show up. No freebies for no shows. It counts against you, regardless of reason. If you think you might be sick, let me know ASAP.
- Late: (LT) You arrive on set 1 minute or more past your calltime. You should always arrive 15-30 minutes before your call time, no earlier, no later. You get 1 freebie for being late. (less than 1 hr late)
It's unfortunate that I have had to create any type of cancellation and no show lists, but in the past, we have had a high no show rate, and with this policy in effect, we now have an extremely low no-show rate. This helps KatzKasting get more jobs, and in turn, helps YOU get more opportunities.
We appreciate each and every one of you, and hope that you find working with KatzKasting not only helps build your integrity as an Actor, but also helps you gain the experience needed to begin booking bigger and better jobs as time goes by. We must help each other, you help me by being the best extra, actor you can be, and I will notice, and will give you more opportunites as appropriate.
Thank you!!!
See you on set!
